Mandatory Department Application

Please fill out the form below to begin the process of applying to the Executive MS in Mechanical Engineering program.

Applications and all application materials must be received prior to the final application deadline for the semester you are applying to. Students submitting applications after the deadline may incur late registration fees.

To apply to the Executive MS in Mechanical Engineering program:

  • Complete the U.S. Graduate Application (Select Mechanical Engineering – Option III as your major).
  • Provide the name, position, organization and email address for at least two academic or professional references who can provide letters of recommendation. While completing the U.S. Graduate Application, you will be prompted to submit contact information for three references. Please ignore this prompt, as we only require two letters of recommendation.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee ($65 for domestic students and $90 for international students; Visa and Mastercard are accepted.).

Within three days of submitting your application, you will receive an email containing MyStatus login information. Through MyStatus, you will be able to track items, upload your resume, submit your transcripts and accept or decline your offer of admission.

Send Your Test Scores*
Request that your GRE scores be sent to UT Austin by the appropriate testing agency. UT Austin’s Educational Testing Service (ETS) institution code is 6882. Please keep in mind that test scores can take up to three weeks to transmit to UT Austin.

*Submission of GRE scores is currently not required but optional for mechanical engineering applicants through the fall 2024 application cycle.

Follow Up on Your Letters of Recommendation
After your application has been submitted, your recommenders will be emailed with instructions for uploading their letters of recommendation to UT Austin. If necessary, you can resend request emails, supply alternate email addresses, add a new recommender or revise your right-to-view status from “retained” to “waived” in MyStatus. Email utmasters@engr.utexas.edu if your recommender is unable to submit an electronic letter of recommendation.

Submit Your Official Transcripts
Submit your official transcripts from every college and university you have attended. Official transcripts can be sent electronically if your previously attended institutions use SPEEDE or Parchment.

Alternatively, you can upload a PDF of the official paper transcript issued to you by the registrar using the Document Upload System. This transcript will be considered unofficial but will satisfy admission requirements. You should redact your Social Security number. No other alterations are permitted, however. Please refer to the Graduate Admission page for detailed instructions on uploading transcripts.

You will be required to submit an official paper transcript only after you have been admitted. Mailing paper transcripts or paper copies of your transcripts prior to being admitted will significantly delay the application process. Once admitted, you can mail your paper transcripts to UT Austin using the submission form.

International students applying to the Executive MS in Mechanical Engineering program must complete the International Graduate Application and follow the same admissions process as domestic applicants. In addition, international students will need to submit either an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score report.

You can use the Educational Testing Service (ETS) institution code, 6882, to send your TOEFL scores to UT Austin from the appropriate agency. To send your IELTS scores, use the IELTS electronic score delivery service to submit scores to the “University of Texas at Austin” account.

International students who attended a Chinese institution should review the Chinese Credential Verification Document for instructions on submitting academic records to UT Austin.

International students from qualifying countries are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. International students with a bachelor’s degree from the United States or a qualifying country are also exempt. Please consult the International Students page for more information on exemptions, assistance and minimum score requirements.
